Filipino Roilo ?The Phoenix? Golez who bragged that he would knock out former WBC world flyweight champion and reigning international champion Edgar Sosa has instead been knocked out in the 7th round in a fight card at the Foro Polanco in Mexico City on Sunday, Manila Time.

What the Manila Standard warned was a seeming mismatch based on the records and credentials of both fighters despite the brave predictions of Golez, eventually turned out to be correct as the vastly experienced Sosa won by a convincing knockout at 2:30 of the seventh round.

With the win Sosa who is aiming for another shot at the world title improved to 44-7 with 27 knockouts while Golez dropped to 13-8 with 5 knockouts.

The Standard had questioned how a fight between Sosa who is ranked No. 2 in the world could be sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board when Sosa was unranked in the WBC top 40 in addition to the fact that Sosa had twice as many knockouts as Golez had wins.

The 32 year old Sosa was coming off a twelve round unanimous decision loss to WBC champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on October 21, 2011.

The current International champion won the crown with a 10th round TKO of tough Ryan Bito of the Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde stable in Mexico on September 11, 2010 after dropping Bito twice in the tenth round with vicious body shots. He has had three successful title defenses.

The vastly experienced Sosa won the vacant WBC flyweight title with a twelve round majority decision over Brian Viloria, the three time world champion who now reigns as WBO flyweight champion.

Sosa successfully defended the title ten times including wins over veteran Juanito Rubillar (7th round TKO on November 29, 2008) and a unanimous twelve round decision over Sonny Boy Jaro on September 27, 2008. However, Sosa lost the title in a somewhat controversial 2nd round TKO to Rodel Mayol on November 21, 2009.

Golez is coming off a 5th round TKO over unheralded Dodoy Alapormina who has a miserable fight record of 1 win against 13 defeats according to boxrec.com last December 23.

Prior to that on October 1, 2011, Golez lost by a 5th round TKO to Mexico?s Sammy Gutierrez in a bloody clash for the vacant WBC Silver title which Gutierrez dominated after Golez was deducted two points for a deliberate head-butt by referee Laurentino Oropeza in the opening round.

At the time of the stoppage which was 2:06 of round five, Golez was losing by a shutout (40-34) on the scorecards of all three judges.

The game Filipino won the Asian Boxing Council minimum weight title with a 10th round TKO over Thailand?s Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo on July 8, 2011 after earlier dropping a ten round unanimous decision to another Thai, Yoomongkol Vor Saengthep in a WBC World Youth light flyweight title fight on May 27, 2010.
