Foro Polanco, Mexico City - Former Light Flyweight Champion Edgar Sosa 43-7 ( 26 KOs ) scored a 7th round TKO of Filipino Roilo Golez 13-7 ( 5 KOS ) in front of a hometown crowd in Mexico City last night. The former WBC belt holder used his strength and effective punching against Golez who gallantly fought in enemy soil.

The Filipino boxer started the fight aggressively, using his jabs to pressure the Mexican in the opening round. He moved around the ring well frustrating Sosa who missed on most of his shots in the opening salvo. Sosa made his adjustments as early as the 2nd round, as he landed multiple combinations that connected on Golez. Those combinations forced Golez in the post as the Mexican continued his assault on him. Golez escaped from it and fought back only to be trapped in the ropes again in the same round.

Golez was hurt in the 3rd as Sosa connected and collared him again in the ropes. Sosa's punches clearly has an effect on the Filipino who tried to ward it as he gets pounded in the ropes. Golez was moving better and was again pressing Sosa using his jabs in the beginning of the 4th round but as soon as the Mexican's punches landed, he gets reverted in the ropes or the corner where he takes more punishment. Sosa lands with headshots on the cowering Golez to the delight of the hometown crowd. The crowd erupts in approval every time Sosa scores on Golez.

Both fighters elected to fight inside in the 5th round, both landed on their own but Sosa was landing more and effectively. Golez hurt from the exchange, was slow on his return to the corner after the end of that round. Sosa continued his attack in Round 6 with multiple three punch combos that scored heavily on the Compostela Valley native. Golez visibly hurt and tired at this point tried to return fire but missed wildly on his punches. He was not moving around the ring as well as he did in the early rounds of the fight.

The end came for Golez in the 7th round when Sosa , sensing that the Filipino is hurting and tiring, came in aggressively to finish him off. The defenseless and now slow Golez was the recipient of Sosa's punches, all of which are headshots that hit him heavily. The referee stepped in and called a halt of the fight thereby saving Golez from taking additional punishment. The time of the stoppage was at 2:30 of the 7th.

Sosa improved his record to 44 wins and 27 knockouts with the win. He also garnered the WBC and WBO Inter- Continental flyweight title and more importantly bounced back from a lost that he suffered against Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand in a WBC title fight last October. For Golez, it is back to the drawing board for him and his team as he suffers his second defeat on his second stint in the country of Mexico.
