Revenge is on the mind of pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s longtime sparring partner Raymundo Beltran when he battles undefeated Luis Ramos Jr in a ten round North American Boxing Association, USA lightweight title fight at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California on January 6.
That?s because Ramos scored a 5th round knockout over Beltran?s close friend and another longtime Pacquiao sparring partner David Rodela last September 320, 2011.
The fight card will kickoff Golden Boy Promotions and SHOWTIME?s first ShoBox: The New Generation telecast for 2012 which will also be telecast in the Philippines on ?BIGTIME BAKBAKAN? over AKTV on IBC 13 at 12:00 noon. Right after Viva Sports weekly boxing show ?The Main Event.?
The 23 year old Ramos is a promising southpaw with a record of 20-0 with 9 knockouts while the 30 year old Beltran, nicknamed ?Sugar? has a record of 25-5 with 17 knockouts.
Ramos who turned pro in 2007 after a series of disappointments in which he failed to make it to the US team to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has been eagerly waiting for a fight like this and is eager to perform in front of a ?Showtime? audience from coast-to-coast.
Marcia Smith of the Orange Country Register reported that after Ramos failed to make the US Olympic team that shattered his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal in 2008, he asked his coach Hector Lopez, ?Now what?? The answer was clear, ?We go pro? said Lopez the TKO Boxing Club coach who told Ramos ?Your style is better suited for the pros, not the Olympics.?
Lopez told his prot?g? ?You will make your name in the pros. Your style, its speed, belongs there.?
Ramos is coming off his biggest year in which he defeated longtime contender Francisco Lorenzo and knocked out fellow prospect David Rodela.
Golden Boy Promotions says the 23-year-old feels he will have home ring advantage on January 6, and he promises to deliver a big win to his growing fan base.
Beltran, on the other hand, has gone 3-1 after returning from a year and a half layoff. But he?s been in great form winning all three of his fights by knockout, with his only loss coming in the form of a close, hotly contested and action-packed decision against undefeated Sharif Bogere (19-0, 12 KO?s) known as ?The Lion? from Uganda in their May 13, 2011 ShoBox fight.
Back on ?Showtime? and seen nationwide in the Philippines on the highly-rated ?BIGTIME BAKBAKAN? Beltran who had many fans in the Philippines is hoping to put on a show for them and most especially for his idol, Manny Pacquiao.
