
TWO-TIME OLYMPIAN PINOY CHESS MASTER MAGA DIES

Manila, Philippines---FILIPINO chess community mourn the loss of strong chess master Mirabeau Maga, a former two-time Olympian chess member who passed away on Monday.
The Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City resident Maga suffered a cardiac arrest at eight o' clock in the morning yesterday at the East Avenue hospital in Quezon City. He was 52.
"We lost a good friend in the chess community." said Edwin Llamo, a confidante of Maga, also the Negros Island director/coordinator of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) under the leadership of it's President/ Chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. and Secretary-General Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr.
"I lost a man who was more than a brother to me," said International Arbiter and national master Elias Lao, also another confidante of Maga.
Lancaster, California based and United States chess master Ruben Ondangan, Novaliches Novelty Chess Club official Ricardo Martin, International Arbiter Gene Poliarco , 2-time olympian national master Samuel Estimo and PUP top player Roberto Racasa also gave their condolences to Maga family.
The Davao City native Maga is a former chess instructor of the famous Milo Checkmate program of olympian Woman National Master Milagros "Mila" Emperado.
His remains lie in state at the Maga residence, No.54 Sto. Nino St., Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City. Interment will be announced later.Call or text +63 915 444-7046 (globe) or +63 920 932-9895 (smart) for more details.
