22 year old Weng Haya has lost in a gallant battle against WBO featherweight champion Orlando ?Siri? Salido of Mexico at the Palenque de la Feria in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.
Haya stayed out of trouble against the aggressive Salido in the first couple of rounds but exploded with seconds remaining in round three and caught Salido with a picture-perfect left hand counter to drop the champion who appeared to be in trouble but was saved by the bell.
At the start of round four, the champion still appeared groggy and Haya connected with a solid left straight to drop the world champion for a second time in the scheduled ten round bout.
The champion began to box and frustrated Haya who appeared to be tiring. Salido hurt Haya with a punch that sent him reeling against the ropes. The 31 year old champion went after the young and comparatively inexperienced Filipino and dropped him after which the referee stepped in and called a halt at 0:35 seconds of the 8th round.
WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo told the Manila Standard that he had spoken to promoter Sammy Gello-ani after the fight and that Gello-ani said Weng Haya ?did very well? even though he lost.
With the loss Haya dropped to 14-5 with 8 knockouts while Salido who used the Haya fight ad a tune-up for a planned rematch with Juan Manuel ?Juanma? Lopez from whom he won the title via s stunning 8th round TKO last April 16 improved to 37-11-2 with 25 knockouts.
Salido made one title defense in July 23, 2011, scoring an 11th round TKO over Kenichi Yamaguchi of Japan.
