The mere thought of it will instantly result in many boxing fans to salivate involuntarily. This was learned yesterday night at the Christmas party of Team Cebu City boxing were two-time world champion Dodie Boy Penalosa revealed that world title contender Mercito Gesta, a native of Mandaue City is open to a possibility of fighting a homecoming bout here, probably mid-January. This will be parallel to up-and-coming prospect Dodie Boy Penalosa, Jr.'s scheduled fight to be promoted by Gerry Pens Promotions. The formidable boxing promotion outfit is owned by former two-division world champion Gerry Penalosa.

However, an impediment to this mega boxing card coming into fruition is that "No Mercy" is under contract with Top Rank and that he is scheduled to leave the country for the US during that time. We're hoping big boss Bob Arum is agreeable to this.

On the other hand, the talented yet humble Penalosa, Jr., who is also a former member of the national amateur boxing team revealed that this is a "statement" bout for him, following a scare in the first round of his last fight against veteran Donriel Marcos in Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City. That fight showed us that he is not just a fighter with a good name but someone with heart of a lion to come back from adverse circumstance. A Sweet Science practitioner's worth is measured not when he's on the offensive but rather on how one reacts when his foe is throwing shots and hurting
him.

Another exciting addition to this proposed boxing card is former amateur standout Dave Penalosa, who the other night had a spectacular performance, not in the squared ring but in entertaining a Christmas party crowd with a dance number. Others slated to compete are Anthony "Zorro" Sabalde and John Kenan Villaflor, who will be making his pro debut.
