Giovanni Segura.

Former world light flyweight champion Giovanni Segura (28-1-1, 24 KO's) says his power will dictate the WBO flyweight title fight against Filipino champion Brian Viloria (29-3, 16 KO's) when they clash at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Ciy on Sunday morning.

The 29 year old Segura who is best known for his two spectacular knockout victories over former undefeated light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon told the Manila Standard after a workout at the Planet Jupiter Gym in Makati City that he and Viloria ?are good friends but that doesn?t mean I don?t want to knock him out okay. Let?s get that clear.?

The Mexican Aztec warrior said he respects the 31 year old three-time world champion Viloria whom he described as ?a great person and a great human being" and noted that they stay in the same hotel "and even eat together."

Segura had previously scored a 6th round TKO over perennial world light flyweight title challenger Juanito Rubillar on July 25, 2009 and a 1st round knockout over Sonny Boy Jaro in a WBA title fight on November 21, 2009.

Segura said "we went at it and it might be a little fight but we did more than the big ones.it wasn't that easy because he hit me with a good punch but after the fight we shook hands because we are friends."

Segura noted that ?this is the part of boxing that people don?t know. I treat boxing with respect as a sport and its just another fight and after that we are still friends. Hopefully we send this message to the young people out there that have another meaning about boxing. Before the fight we are friends, after the fight we?re friends and in the ring we are just an opponent who is trying to win just like a game of chess or dominoes. That?s the way it has to be, there?s no need for trash talking.?

Segura said he had no problem with his weight because the Manila weather was ?is the weather of the boxers, that?s why Manny (Pacquiao) likes to be here. I?ve been eating all kinds of food its just so wonderful. I?m living this moment and just giving it all for you guys (the fans) that help put food on the table for us.?

Sparring partner Walter ?The School Boy? Sarnoi who is a boxer-who can mix it up when he wants to told us that Segura was ?one of the strongest fighters I?ve been in the ring with and his power carries him a long way.d I?m going to help Giovanni do what he has to do to beat the champion.?

He said it was not only Segura?s power that would decide the outcome of the title fight but also his ?intensity, his aggressiveness and his pressure and not many fighters put pressure like him.?

Sarnoi who went to school with Viloria in Michigan credited Viloria for ? being a great fighter and its going to be an interesting fight. Its part of the business of boxing but I?m here to do what I came here to do and that is to help Giovanni beat Viloria and become a world champion in his second weight class.?

Segura lamented the fact that after fighters like Viloria, Calderon and himself had accomplished and provide action and excitement don?t get paid anything like fighters in the heavier weight divisions even though many of them are involved in poor performances, citing the Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson title fight.

The Mexican warrior said they need to be given more respect since ?we are making a living out of boxing and don?t get paid that much.?

Segura said ?look at me. I?m in the Philippines leaving my kids, leaving my wife and all my family, I?m starving to make weight and all these sacrifices we make like Brian does, I believe we deserve a little bit more. I left half of my heart and half of its here to fight Viloria. I?m blessed and don?t regret what I?m going through and I can only thank all these beautiful Filipino people.?
