Former amateur prospect Karlo Maquinto of Shape Up boxing stable in Baguio City cruised to his seventh straight victory since turning pro barely a year ago by scoring a third round technical knockout victory over Zoren Pama of Paranaque City last Saturday at the Convention Center in Rosario, Cavite.

The 21-year-old Maquinto, a native of Lambunao, Iloilo and a former mainstay of the University of Baguio amateur boxing team, vaulted back from a first round knockdown of his six-round flyweight encounter with the Paranaque pride punishing his opponent with strong left straights and right uppercuts, forcing him to drop his mouthpiece in the process and the referee to stop the bout.

Maquinto?s impressive triumph improved his undefeated record to 7-0 with five KOs that lined him up for a possible bigger fight in the undercard of the Brian Viloria-Giovanni Segura world flyweight championship showdown on Dec. 11 at the Ynares Sports Center.

Maquinto?s stoppage win, likewise, highlighted another victory run by Anson Tiu Co-managed Shape Up fighters over their lowland counterparts that also saw minimum-weight Michael Paragoso scoring a similar abbreviated win over Alvin Braga of Libon, Albay in the third round of a four-round preliminary.

Fighting in his pro-bout, Paragoso struggled in the opening round before recovering in the second and third to mark his successful fight-for-pay assignment.

Light-flyweight Macrea Gandionco, likewise, had to recover from an opening round knockdown to punish Dodoy Alformina of Muntinlupa City in the next five sessions to escape a unanimous decision triumph in another six-round collision.

Capping the Baguio City fighters? streak were light-fly Michael Enriquez unanimous verdict win over Raymart Calumpad of Angono, Rizal in four rounds and bantamweight Erwin Cebuhano?s split decision triumph over Jessie Blanca, also in six. Luck did not smile on super-bantamweight Larry Abarra though who lost to Vergel Puton of Paranaque City in his six rounds.

?Well, five-out-of-six, hindi na masama. Nakakakaba dahil lahat ng laban close, pero di bale, Mga bata pa naman sila,? Co, who owns the Cooyeesan Hotel, home of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao while training in Baguio, said of his boys? triumphant march.

?Ibig sabihin nito on track ang programa natin na maka-discover ng future world champions. Importante ang panalo, lalo na ni Maquinto because naka-schedule siyang lumaban sa undercard ng Viloria-Segura world championship bout early next month,? Co said in reference to the ?Island Assault 3? card on Dec. 11.
