Boxers representing the Shape Up Boxing Gym showed the way over their Metro Manila counterparts in the recently concluded Cooyeesan Hotel Plaza Boxing Championships in Baguio City.
Super-bantamweight Larry Abarra led the Anson Tiu Co-managed fighters with a quick first round knockout victory over Warren Mambuanag of the Mercado Boxing Stable of Mandaluyong City in their four-round encounter.
Three of his stablemates ? super-flyweight Erwin Cebuhano, flyweight Karlo Marquinto and light-flyweight Marcrea Gandiongo completed Shape Up?s sweep of their opponents with unanimous decision verdicts over their respective rivals.
Cebuhano had Mabert Paulino of Manoy Boxing Stable of Quezon City under his palms in all their six-round collision, while Maquinto, likewise, never gave Gerald Cortez of Aljo Stable of Las Pinas City a room to strut his wares, also in six rounds. Gandiongco rounded out the Shape Up Stable?s impressive showing by impressing all the three judges? nods in his six-round showdown with Jomar Acedera of Toyco Boxing Stable of Mandaluyong City.
Co, who also owns Cooyeesan Hotel Plaza, acknowledged as World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao?s official home in the country?s summer capital, expressed elation with his wards? performance saying their victories are products of the stable?s development program he started only a few years ago.
?I am congratulating the boys for a job well-done which only proved that we?re on track in our program to promote and develop the sport of boxing not only in the city but in the entire Cordillera Region as well,? Co said.
Other winners in the competition Cooyeesan hosted in collaboration with ARCI are Argie Toquero of Toyco Stable of Las Pinas via majority decision over Gilbert Donasales of Mandaluyong (6 rounds), Nino Valenzuela of ARCI Stable unanimous decision (6 rounds) over Leonardo Talisic of Moreno Stable of Tanza, Cavite, Bobby Concepcion of ARCI Stable W majority decision over Gerald Ubatay, and Ryan Soliveres over Rafael Fletchero of ARCI Stable (KO 8th round).
