MGM GRAND, LAS VEGAS -- Undefeated junior welterweight Mike ?Mile High? Alvarado (32-0-0, 23KOs) of Thornton, Colorado continues his climb to the top of the rankings by knocking out Breidis Prescott (24-4-0 19KOs) of Colombia in the final round of their 10-round contest. Alvarado and Prescott went into an all out war the entire evening in many instances fighting in a phone-booth type battle with Alvarado's face bloodied in the early rounds as Prescott rained bombs on Alvarado's face. In the later rounds however, Alvarado began to connect decisively pushing Prescott to box more than he ever did. The end came at 1:53 of the last round as Prescott finally went down from a series of powerful uppercuts from Alvarado. The referee stopped the contest without finishing the count.
The punch stats were about even with Alvarado throwing 566 punches connecting 192 to Prescott's 608 with 208 connects. Alvarado sent in 279 power punches connecting 120 to Prescott's 273 with 98 connects.
Prescott was leading in the scorecards at 87-84, 87-74 and 86-85 after the night round.
Coming up next is the main undercard bout between Timothy Bradley and Joel Casamayor.
