Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz says reports that Floyd Mayweather Jr plans to fight Pacquiao in May is just another ?gimmick by Mayweather to try and steal the thunder from Manny?s upcoming fight (against Juan Manuel Marquez) just like he did one day after the press conference to announce the Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight.?
Dan Rafael of ESPN reported that that Mayweather had informed Leonard Ellerbe and another adviser, Al Haymon of his decision to fight in May. Ellerbe reportedly told Rafael "We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella. Floyd made it very clear to us, what he wanted to do. He told us he is looking to make the biggest fight that is out there and to make it in May."
In an overseas telephone conversation with the Manila Standard, Koncz said ?how can he set the date, how can he set the venue without consulting with your opponent??
Koncz insisted that the Mayweather camp ?has not spoken to anybody that has the authority to negotiate. They have not spoken to Bob Arum and they have not spoken to me.?
The adviser said Pacquiao took the day off on Wednesday which was only the second during training camp and was spending the whole day up in his room doing tickets and stuff and we?ve been working on endorsements which are not mickey mouse $100,000 but multi-million dollar deals.?
Ellerbe had earlier told Ben Thompson of FightHype who is a known supporter of Mayweather that they were ?pleased to know that Pacquiao had agreed to take the USDA random blood and urine tests.?
However, the claim appeared to contrast with an earlier statement by Arum that Pacquiao was prepared to take the tests under the auspices of WADA, the world anti-doping body and not the USDA whose top executives have shown manifest partiality to Mayweather in past public pronouncements.
