Lapulapu City, Cebu ? Former world champion Marvelous Marvin Sonsona is back with a vengeance after sending his Mexican rival Carlos Jacobo to the canvas in the 8th round en route to a dominant win at the Hoops Dome here moments ago. The judges' scores were 98-91, 98-91 and 97-92 all in favor for the General Santos city native.

The 21-year-old Sonsona, who was out of the ring for 20 months after his defeat by Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr of Puerto Rico February of last year, showed that he still has the skill, the speed and the ring smarts worthy of a former world champion and with the proper attitude and dedication could go very far in the world's toughest sport.

In the early rounds, Sonsona controlled the contest with well-placed jabs and left crosses and counters as the visiting Mexican appeared confused and could not get his bearing. In the middle rounds however, Sonsona's long absence took its toll as he appeared spent up and gasping for breath allowing Jacobo to take the offensive. As Jacobo's confidence grew stronger, Sonsona got his second wind and tagged Jacobo with solid left and right counters staggering the game Mexican several times before finally sending Jacobo to the canvas in the 8th round with thundering right. Sonsona then coasted to victory after failing to put away for good Jacobo in a 10-round contest.

Sonsona has now improved his record to 15 wins, 1 defeat and 1 draw with 12 KOs. Jacobo suffers his 4th defeat and went down to 16-4-1 win-loss-draw record.
