Former WBO super flyweight champion ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona and reigning Mexicam super bantamweight champion Carlos ?Lightning? Jacobo have both promised ?a great fight? when they clash in the ten round main event of an exciting fight card at the Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City on Saturday.

Appropriately titled ?Back With A Vengeance? since Sonsona returns to the ring after a 20 month layoff and is determined to work his way back to a world title, the fight card will be telecast ?Live? by AKTV IBC Channel 13, the free to air sports network of ABC 5 beginning at 9:00 p.m.

Sonsona said he has trained for the past two months at the Omega Gym in Cebu and sparred mostly with lightweights including Rey Labao, Weng Haya, Jimrex Jaca, Jesse Rosales (brother of Ciso ?Kid Terrible?Morales who lost by a 1st round KO to then WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel) and Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr.

Sonsona who took a long layoff after suffering a 4th round knockout against WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr on February 27,2010 said he had made up his mind that he would make boxing a career and even after the fight on Saturday would remain in Cebu to train and not return to his hometown of General Santos City.

The hard-hitting southpaw who dominated Jose ?Carita? Lopez to win the WBO super flyweight championship on September 4, 2009 said he hadn?t see any fight tapes of Jacobo and would size up in the ring before figuring on how to put him away.

Jacobo who arrived from Cebu with Sonsona and promoter Sammy Gello-ani for news conference with top boxing writers in Manila said ?I trained hard for this bout, I trained for two months. I sparred fifteen rounds every day. This will be a great fight.?

The Mexican who has 12 knockouts in 14 wins with 3 losses and one draw said his power punch is the right straight which is the is the perfect counter when facing a southpaw.

Jacobo who won the FECOMBOX super bantamweight title with a 5th round TKO of Ulises Cadena last April 16 figured ina ten round draw against Victpriano Nunez in his last fight on June 18. He won the Mexican title on July 17, 2010 when his opponent Rafael Gutierrez retired in the 8th round of their scheduled twelve round bout.

Gello-ani has been questioned about his decision to pick a tough opponent with an impressive KO record for Sonsona?s comeback bout after a layoff of 20 months. The promoter said he had watched how seriously Sonsona had trained and wanted to give him a stiff test immediately to find out whether he still had it in him to become a world champion.

Gello-ani said ?I was worried when I saw Jacobo?s record but I noticed that Marvin was training seriously, so I decided to make it hard for him. Sonsona accepted the challenge and confidently predicted he would prove his worth on Saturday night."
