With the October 22, 2011 Big Apple debut of Nonito Donaire just three weeks away, the WBC and the WBO bantamweight champ is giving Filipino residents of the Tri State area an opportunity to be part of this great sporting event. Not only will one lucky resident be able to watch the fight live at the historic Madison Square Garden for free and at ringside, he or she will also be playing an important event that evening. Donaire announced that he is giving one lucky Filipino resident of New York, New Jersey and/or Connecticut the chance to sing our national anthem in front of the thousands attending that night and the millions watching worldwide via HBO and Top Rank.com.
The Filipino Flash announced through his Facebook fan page that they are looking for an individual from the area to take to center stage or ring that night and make our fellow Filipinos proud as he or she leads the singing of our national anthem before the main contest featuring Donaire defending his belts against unbeaten Argentinean Omar Andres Narvaez starts.
Everyone, regardless if you are an amateur or a seasoned professional singer, whether you are young or old and whether you are a student or a working professional is encouraged to join the search. You can make a video clip of yourself or with the help of family and friends singing our national anthem via You Tube and you can post the link of the video on The Filipino Flash's Facebook page: Nonito Donaire Jr. (http://www.facebook.com/#!/nonitodonaire) or you can e-mail it together with a short biography and your contact information to fan@filipinoflash.com.
The winner will be announced on Nonito Donaire's scheduled open public workout on October 15th at 1 pm at the Gleason's Gym at 77 Front St. in Brooklyn, NY. Fans are invited to attend this event which is part of the many activities planned for fight week. So what are you waiting for my New York, New Jersey and Connecticut kababayans? Practice that singing voice now and submit your clip right away. If chosen, you will be our country and future pound for pound king's voice of "Pinoy Pride" in the most famous city in the world that night.
