COMPLETE UNDERCARD RESULTS FOR MARTINEZ - BARKER IN ATLANTIC CITY

Atlantic City, N.J. - The following are the results of the undercard fights for DiBella Entertainment and HBO's presentation of "Noche de Maravilla" (Night of Wonder) featuring Sergio Martinez versus Darren Barker at the Boardwalk Hall Arena.
An upset opened the night with Bronx, New York's Troy Artis 2-2-1 (1 KO)knocking out previously undefeated Israel Duffus 2-0 (2 KOs) of San Miguelito, Panama. Duffus got dropped three times in the fight prompting referee Steve Smoger to call a halt at the 2:03 mark of the 3rd round.
Middleweight prospect J'Leon Love 8-0 (6 KOs) remained undefeated by winning a 6 round UD win over a tough Eddie Hunter 5-6-2 @2 KOs) of Kent, WA. The scores were 60-53 and 60-54 twice for the Detroit, MI boxer.
Daniel Lugo 0-1 of Harrisburg, PA scored the night's second upset over former unbeaten junior middleweight Kevin Rooney Jr. Rooney 2-0 (1 KO) of Catskills, NY is the son of legendary trainer Kevin Sr. who used to train Mike Tyson and is also the publicist of tonight's event for Dibella Entertainment. The hardnosed Lugo was the aggressor in the 4 round fight that tested the younger Rooney from the opening round. Lugo attacked Rooney who elected to fight from a distance with jabs. Rooney hurt Lugo in the fourth forcing Lugo to grab on to him and the two fell in the canvass. The scores of 39-37 times three surprised the slowly building crowd in the arena who are expecting for Rooney to carve out his 3rd straight win.
U.S. Army captain Boyd Melson of White Plains, NY improved his unbeaten record to six with a 6 round UD win against Russ Niggemyer 2-3 (2 KOs) of Hillard, OH. The West Point graduate punished Niggemyer for the whole six rounds of the junior middleweight bout en route to an impressive win. The scores were two shutout scores of 60-54 and 60-53 and 59-55 from the three judges at ringside.
Junior Middleweight Steven Martinez 10-0 (8 KOs) of Bronx, NY scored the night's second knockout with a TKO victory over Jay Krupp 14-4 (7 KOs) of Catskills, NY. Martinez caught and hurt Krupp with a left in the 5th round that staggered Krupp. The unbeaten Martinez pursued Krupp relentlessly hitting him with left and rights that caught him flushed in the face. Referee Steve Smoger halted the fight at the 0:38 seconds of the 5th round.
Russian Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov 9-0 (9 KOs) made a quick work of 300 plus pound Kevin Burnett 13-4-1 8 (KOs) of Atlanta, GA. Magomed who now trains out of Oxnard, CA scored two knockdowns of the out of shape Burnett early in the fight forcing Burnett's corner to throw in the towel. The official time of stoppage was 1:18 of the opening round.
Sean Monaghan 8-0 (5 KOs) of Long Beach, NY improved his unbeaten record to nine with a punishing 4th round TKO win against Kentrell Claiborne 2-3 (1 KO) of Cleburne, Texas .Monaghan pummeled the Texan with volleys of uppercuts and overhand right hands from the get go. Referee Samuel Viruet halted the fight at the 0:54 mark of the 4th round after deciding that Claiborne had received enough punishment from the Irishman.
Light Heavyweight Isaac Chilemba 17-1-1 (8 K-Os) of Johannesburg, South Africa also had a short night of work by demolishing Jameson Bostic 23-4 (13 KOs) of Brooklyn, NY. Chilemba attacked Bostic from the opening bell putting the Brooklyn boxer in defensive mode early in the fight. He unloaded a flurry of punches on Bostic in round 2, most of it landing heavily on his head. A left and right hook combination dropped Bostic and he was unable to get up from the knockdown. The time of the KO was 1:48 of the 2nd.
An action packed bout was tonight's co feature match in the Boardwalk Hall Arena. Irishman Andy Lee 26-1 (19 KOs) who now trains out of Detroit, MI avenged the only loss of his career against tough Mexican - American Brian Vera 19-5 (12 KOs) of Austin, TX. After a tentative first round, Lee caught Vera in the closing seconds of round 2 with a straight left hand that floored Vera. Lee dominated the fight thereon, electing to counter punch and jab the assaulting Vera. Lee used jabs, straights and uppercuts to thwart Vera much to the enjoyment of the crowd here in New Jersey. Lee opened a cut in Vera's left eyebrow by the 4th as a result of his right hand landing multiple times on Vera. Vera escaped a knockdown in the 6th after being off balance as a result of a right hook from Lee which landed on him as he was moving in. His gloves touched the canvass after the hit but he quickly regained his balance and referee Steve Smoger missed it. Vera's best round came in the 7th as he unloaded good body shots on Lee whom he trapped in the ropes. A couple of right hands also found its way to Lee's head in the round. Lee finished the remaining rounds of the match fighting from a distance but also scoring blows on the confused Vera who does not seem to have an answer for the Irishman. Lee wins it with unanimous decision score after 10 rounds. The scores were 98 - 91, and 99 - 90 twice all for Andy Lee. It was a sweet victory for Lee who admitted that his defeat to Vera back in 2008 haunted him till now.
