DEBUQUE WINS GOLD IN WORLD JUNIOR & SUB-JUNIOR POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Philippines 18 year old Raymond Debuque left the best for last to give the country its only gold medal in the 105KG Squat Event which enabled him to also win a silver medal in the final tally at the World Junior & Sub-Junior Powerlifting Champinships in Moose Jaw, Canada.

Debuque, the Philippine National Open Champion was competing fir the first time abroad

Following his gold medal performance Debuque said ?I was very very happy kasi alam ko, akin na iyon, ?. Alam kong naka uwi ako ng karangalan sa bansa?.

The youngster said he wished to thank the PSC, POC, and Pancake House, at ang Dewfoam, kung wala sila, hindi kami nakapunta rito at mag-compete?

The four-man Philippine team ended with one g old and three silver medals in a worthy performance against competitors from Russia, USA, Ukraine, Finland, Kazakhstan, Canada, Japan, Ecuador and several other powerhouse squads.

Earlier in the competition Regie Ramirez and Lucas Lorenzo won silver medals in the Bench Press event in the 53kg and 94kg classes respectively while Clark Cruz placed 4th in the Deadlift event of the 74kg class.

Debuque is the son of the former "Strongest Man in the Philippines" and twp-time Asian Open gold medalist Ramon Debuque.

In fact all four athletes are second generation Powerlifting team members. Ramirez is the nephew of current World record-holder and new all-time pound-for-pound strongest Filipina Anita Koykka while Cruz is the son of many-time Asian champion and Philippines all-time strongest man in powerlifting.Lorenzo is the nephew of former Asian Open Bench Press record holder Marco Lorenzo.
