In a battle of rugged southpaws Australia?s Vic Darchinyan retained his IBO bantamweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over South Africa?s Evans Mbamba at the Demirchayan Sports Complex in Yerevan, Armenia.
Darchinyan battered Mbamba throughout the one-sided fight in which both boxers were cut but not badly.
Madamba absorbed a lot of punishment but refused to buckle under Drachinyan?s power.
With the win the 35 year old Darchinyan improved to 37-3-1 with 27 knockouts while the 29 year old Mbamba dropped to 18-2 with 9 knockouts.
Darchinyan won the vacant IBO 118 pound title with a 5th round technical decision over Yonnhy Perez on April 23, 2011 after Perez was cut during an accidental clash of heads and couldn?t continue.
Darchinyan who dropped Perez in round two won by a 50-44b shutout.
Darchinyan?s first defeat was at the hands of Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire who scored a spectacular one punch demolition of the cocky Aussie on July 7, 2007 to win the IBF/IBO flyweight titles.
