Philippine Davis Cup doubles specialist Treat Huey and his Indian partner Somdev Devarrman have moved into the third round of the US Open men?s doubles with a comfortable straight sets victory over the No.1 4 seeds Juan Ignacio Chelo and Eduardo Schwank of Argentina at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The US Open is telecast ?live? by ?BALLS TV?, the cable sports station of ABS-CBN. The telecast starts at 11 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. which is the day session in New York and then after a possible break from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. the coverage resumes at 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a,m. with a replay from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Huey who is ranked No. 70 in the world in doubles and Devarrman who is ranked No. 63 took just 66 minutes to dispose of the Argentine tandem 6-3/6-4.
They will face the winners of the match between veteran Leander Paes and Mahes Bhupati, the former Wimbledon doubles champions who are seeded No. 4 in the US Open and Florian Meyer of Germany and Rogier Wassen of the Netherlands.
Huey and Devarrman served three aces to none for their opponents and had a winning percentage of 74 to 66 on their first serves as well as 3 winners to 1 and no double faults to the Argentines 1.
The Philippine-Indian tandem also converted 2 out of 3 break points while the Argentine duo failed to convert on three break points.
The unseeded Huey and Devarrman earlier beat Russia?s regular grand-slam campaigners Igor Andreev and Igor Kunitsyn 6-3/6-4 in 67 minutes breaking the Russians four times in the match.
The win was Huey's first in a grandslam event and is also Huey's first main draw appearance in the US open. In addition it is the Fil-Am?s first time to secure an outright entry into a grandslam event because of his high No. 70 world ranking in doubles.
The past two years Huey made the main draw at Wimbledon through the qualifying rounds.
His doubles partner and former Virginia star Devarrman who is currently ranked No. 63 in the world in singles gave Britain?s Andy Murray, the No. 4 seed some problems at the beginning of their first round singles match but eventually lost in straight sets 7-6/6-2/6-3.
Huey and Devarrman got 64 percent of their first serves in compared to the 57 percent of Andreev and Kunitsyn and converted that into a 77 to 66 winning percentage while also besting the Russian pair 50-38 on their second serves.
Huey and Devarrman hammered home 7 winners to none for the Russian tandem in their court No. 15 match with the first set ending in 30 minutes and the second taking a little longer at 37 minutes.
The Filipino-Indian duo broke their rivals four times in the course of the match.
