The anxiously awaited comeback fight of former WBO super flyweight champion ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona (14-1-1, 12 KO?s) has been postponed through no fault of the boxer.
Sonsona?s Mexican opponent Leopoldo Gonzales who himself was on the comeback trail lost by a shocking 4th round knockout to Francisco Leal last weekend and will have to sit out for 45 days.
Promoter Sammy Gello-ani who is in Mexico told the Daily Inquirer that ?Gonzales the manager allowed him to fight thinking he can win in spite of the contract that they had signed? to fight Sonsona in a battle at the Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City on September 24.
However, Gello-ani said he was able to get a replacement for Gonzales whom he identified as Mexican and WBC FECOMBOX super bantamweight champion Carlos Jacobo who has an impressive record of 12 knockouts in 14 wins with 3 losses and one draw.
Jacobo, who carries the monicker ?Flash of Lightning? was held to a ten round draw in his last fight against Victorino Nunez on June 18 after winning the FECOMBOX title with a smashing 5th round TKO over Ulises Cadena whom he dropped in round four before the referee called a halt at 1:22 of the fifth round.
Jacobo won the Mexican title when his opponent Rafael Gutierrez retired in the 8th round of their title fight.
Jacobo has won six fights in a row by knockout or technical knockout indicating he is a powerful puncher.
However, Gello-ani said Sonsona was training intensely in Cebu and was looking forward to make a statement in his comeback fight which is now likely to take place on October 8.
