The president of the Philippine Amateur Track & Field Association and the Karatedo Federation has written to International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge requesting him to send a team to Manila to investigate allegations of corruption and other anomalies in the Philippine Olympic Committee.
In his letter, the embattled Go Teng Kok who is facing an attempt to have him expelled from the POC charged that ?corruption, malversation of sports funds , election-fixing, NSA grabbing and oppression of athletes are prevalent in the POC? and appeal to Rogge to send an IOC investigative team to ?look into these serious and anomalous matters before they become worse.?
Go Teng Kok referred to the IOC president?s declaration in Tokyo last July 14 that the International Olympic Committee will fight against all forms of corruption and unlawful activities in sports. Rogge told the 100th anniversary of the Japanese Olympic Committee in Tokyo ?corruption is the new danger that the IOC is facing. We have to fight against it and this has to be waged by sports movements around the world.?
Go Teng Kok claimed that sports such as swimming, karatedo, bowling, weight lifting, wushu and dragon boat racing are ?so marred by corruption and oppression of athletes that some national athletes had already decided not to compete in the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November.?
The one-time special assistant of POC president Jose ?Peping? Cojuangco who helped Cojuangco win in the POC presidential elections by one vote over Arturo Macapagal said he recently resigned his position ?because I can no longer bear the corruption and unlawful activities of the POC president and his close associates .
The fiery NSA president whose position as Karatedo head was recently upheld by the courts alleged that Cojuangco and POC secretary general Steve Hontiveros have been ?charged with plunder before the Office of the Ombudsman? by former PSC chairman Harry Angping ?in connection with the un-liquidated amount of P73.5 million? which the POC was given for use in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.
He also alleged in his letter to the IOC president that POC chairman Monico Puentevella was charged with plunder for failure to liquidate P50 million which he received from the PSC for the 2005 SEA Games which he reportedly deposited in his personal bank account in Bacolod City. Go Teng Kok alleged that POC treasurer Julian Camacho was indicted for fraud after he was found collecting the fees of a foreign wushu coach whose contract had already been terminated.
Go Teng Kok who has headed the PATAFA for some 21 years alleged that there is now ?a total breakdown in due process, f air play and justice in Philippine sports.? He claimed many sports leaders were joining him in the fight against corruption but added ?we badly need your support, taking as an inspiration your laudable battle cry in Tokyo.?
