The Mexican government is excited over the final stop in Mexico City of the media tour for the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez trilogy set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 12.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Daily Inquirer that ?the Mexican government is going absolutely nuts and has made available a special area that can accommodate up to 50,000 people. It?s the venue from which the Mexican president addresses the nation. They have agreed to allow us to use this for the press conference. It is really going to turn heads.?
Well known Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran, a friend and partner of Arum in several major boxing events is handling the final stop of the tour and indications are it will take place outside the Palacio Nacional which is the residence of the Mexican president.
Arum said he will ?try to see whether he can make a similar arrangement in Manila where the press tour will start in the last week of August. We want a big public press conference.?
At the request of Arum we asked the office of Mayor Fred Lim for details on how the Top Rank promoter could contact him for the necessary permits to hold the event at the Rizal Park and would contact the National Parks and Development Committee headed by Executive Director Juliet Villegas to seek permission to use the Luneta Grandstand on the last Saturday of August.
