LAPULAPU CITY ? Filipino bantamweight contender AJ 'Bazooka' Banal will face popular Canadian prospect Tyson 'The Prince of Hali' Cave at the newly minted Hoops Dome in Lapulapu City, Cebu on July 30, 2011 to headline Pinoy Pride VII, ALA Promotions has announced during the press conference today at the swanky Plantation Bay Hotel here.
Banal (24-1-1, 19KOs) who continues to climb back from a derailed stellar career after a big loss to Panama's Rafael Concepcion three years ago, exudes confidence during the well-attended media gathering and said he is ready to take on Cave nicknamed 'The Prince of Hali' who resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Banal racked up seven straight victories, 6 by knockouts after the Concepcion letdown and made no secret that he wants to have a rematch with Concepcion right after dispatching Cave end of this month to redeem his career's only loss.
Cave (15-1-0, 5KOs) who is the current WBC Continental Americas bantaweight champion and who has a good mix of boxing and punching skills, meanwhile has other plans. According to ALA's Michael Aldeguer, Cave has accepted this fight because he saw Banal as his ticket to stardom.
Also seeing action in the event that will launch the newly-built 8,000 capacity Hoops Dome into big time boxing are comebacking Michael Domingo (40-15-5, 18KOs) who will go up against Richard Samosir (18-3-3, 7KOs) of Indonesia. Domingo lost by split decision in his last outing to South Africa's Vusi Malinga in Mafikeng, South Africa in October last year in a title eliminator fight.
Knockout artist Lorenzo Villanueva (20-0-0, 19KOs) of North Cotabato also returns to action against Eddy Camaro (24-10-4, 9KOs) of Indonesia.
Banal, Domingo and Villanueva will do sparring sessions tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at the Hoops Dome just before pound-for-pound king and Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao will perform together with his band a free-to-the-public concert at the newly-minted dome.
Also on hand during the presscon were ALA President Michael Aldeguer and Plantation Bay general manager Efren Belarmino. The Pinoy Pride boxing series airs on ABS-CBN Network.
