Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz has doused cold water on the reported $65 million offer by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim for Pacquiao to fight undefeated Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez sometime next year in Mexico.

In an overseas telephone conversation with the Daily Inquirer, Koncz said ?that?s old news. It's from before and it?s not really an offer. It's nothing. It's not even in the book anymore.? Koncz also expressed surprise about how a $65 million figure was mentioned.

Koncz disclosed that it was merely a letter that was sent to the Mexican Ambassador in Manila which apparently was relayed to Ilocos Sur governor Luis ?Chavit? Singson. He said ?it happened some seven months ago.?

The adviser indicated that ?for all intents and purposes right now it's over with. There?s no negotiations going on with Mexico right now.?

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said he has good relations with the people of Slim and that he had spoken directly to Slim who said ?its not true.? Alvarez is promoted by Golden Boy.

Even Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was surprised when the story broke in the Inquirer and was quickly picked up by several internet boxing sites because it's Top Rank that negotiates Pacquiao?s fights although Singson is a friend of both Pacquiao and Arum. In fact Arum called Singson to find out what the story was all about.

The story also claimed that the opponent being picked to face Pacquiao is undefeated rising star Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez who won the WBC light middleweight title relinquished by Pacquiao with a unanimous decision over European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton, brother of Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton who was annihilated by Pacquiao in two rounds.

Arum said Pacquiao ?will kill Alvarez? while WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman said the 20 year old Mexican was not ready to face a fighter of the caliber of Pacquiao but could be a worthy opponent in one or two years time.

Pacquiao?s trainer Freddie Roach didn?t even bother to consider a Pacquiao-Alvarez fight said undefeated Vanes Martirosyan who won the WBC light middleweight silver belt with a smashing 7th round knockout over Saul Roman would knock out Alvarez in one round.
