The battering he took at the hands of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in their battle for the vacant WBC light middleweight title last November may force Antonio Margarito to quit boxing.
Margarito whose right eye was almost shut and his face ripped by the pounding he took from Pacquiao was diagnosed with a broken orbital socket in the post-fight medical examination.
Latest word is that the Mexican, nicknamed ?The Tijuana Tornado? also suffered a detached retina which may force him to retire.
During the fight Pacquiao looked at referee Laurence Cole several times requesting him to stop the fight but Cole ignored his pleas and let the massacre continue causing what may well be irreparable damage to Margarito and putting an end to his fighting career.
Cole received bitter criticism for his failure to stop the fight which was in stark contrast to referee Kenny Bayless who called a halt in the twelfth round when Pacquiao dominated Miguel Cotto in their welterweight title fight even though Cotto was in much better shape than Margarito.
