LAS VEGAS, Nevada ? Former WBC world light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol of the Philippines served notice of his determined bid to return to his former status by pounding out a majority decision victory over Mexican Javier Gallo in one of the undercards of the Manny Pacquiao-Sugar Shane Mosley fight Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Arena here.

Mayol, fighting out of Mandaue City in Cebu, earned the nod of two of the three judges who worked the fight with judges Jerry Roth and Lisa Giampa seeing the fight in identical lopsided 98-92 verdicts

Judge CJ Ross did not agree with his peers, however, as he saw the 10-round setto even at 95-all.

?Hindi bale, kahit papaano nanalo, kahit na napakalayo nung iskor noong dalawang judges. And importante ay makabalik na ako para muling maging contender para mabawi ang korona,? Mayol said after the hout.

Mayol actually won the first eight rounds before the eyes of judge Roth as he repeatedly scored with flurry of lefts and rights.Judge Giampa, had the Filipino the winner in the first five rounds.

Mayol slowed down though in the last two rounds, allowing the Tijuana, Mexico native to stage a rally and closed the gap.

The victory improved Mayol?s record to 27-5-2 with 21 knockouts, while the loss dropped Gallo to 17-3-1 with 9 Ko's.
