Adrian ?El Confesor? Hernandez did what most fight fans expected him to do by winning the WBC light flyweight title from champion Gilberto Keb Baas whose climb to the title with a woeful ring record was considered unusual.
Hernandez who was ranked No.1 gave the game Keb Baas a pounding before the referee decided to stop it in between the tenth and eleventh rounds at the Coliseo de la Feria de Texcoco in Mexico, Sunday, Manila Time..
Hernandez scored a 4th round TKO over Keb Baas on March 8, 2008 in a battle for the WBC C ontinental Americas title as well as the vacant WBC International title and the North American Boxing Federation crown.
Keb Baas had also lost by a 11th round knockout to Filipino Brian Viloria on June 4, 2004. Viloria later went on to win the WBC title and in April 2009 in Manila, Viloria stunned Mexican champion Ulises Solis to win the IBF title with an11th round knockout.
However, the Mexican journeyman who had an unimpressive record of only 2 wins as against 8 losses and 2 draws between 2006 and late 2009 shocked countryman Omar Nino Romero with a twelve round majority decision to win the WBC title last November 6, 2010 and defended it successfully against former champion Jose Antonio Aguirre who was way over the hill on February 26 this year.
With the win the 22 year old Hernandez improved his record to 21-1-1 with 13 knockouts while the 33 year old Keb Baas fell to 35-21-4 with 22 knockouts.
