PBA fans, known to be normally boisterous and noisy especially in Game 1 of the Finals between crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra and the powerhouse Talk N' Text Tropang Texters showed their class during a touching tribute to the late Commissioner Rudy Salud who passed away recently.
In a presentation hosted with style by Patricia Bermudez Hizon, the crowd was help captive by an eleven minute audio-visual tribute that showed Salud in various memorable moments in a sporting career that set him apart.
The crowd which would normally become restless eager to see the game begin was silent and appreciative of what they saw and the words of such distinguished individuals as former chairman Carlos "Honeyboy" Palanca, ex Pasig Mayor Mario Raymundo, a pro league diehard, Leo Prieto Jr whose father also served as founding commissioner and was regarded as Salud's mentor, WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman and the "Living Legend" and former Senator Robert Jaworski.
As PBA Chairman Rene Pardo sounded the final buzzer the crowd rose to its feet and gave Salud a wonderful round of applause that clearly touched his family led by his widow Josephine or "Pampin, his son the current Commissioner Chito Salud and another son Dr. Arnold Salud along with two of Rudy's four daughters.
The response on behalf of the Salud family was delivered by the wife of Dr. Arnold Salud. Unable to attend were son Renato Salud who is a top executive of Diageo Pte. Ltd in Singapore and daughter Priscilla who lives in the US.
