LAPU-LAPU and Manny Pacquiao have a lot of things in common.

Both are warriors ? Lapu-Lapu on the battlefield and Pacquiao on the ring. Both are heroes ? Lapu-Lapu is the first Filipino hero and Pacquiao is a once-in-a-generation sporting hero. Both are leaders ? Lapu-Lapu being a datu of Mactan and Pacquiao being an elected representative of Sarangani?s lone Legislative District.

On April 24-27, those great men will be mentioned on the same breath again as the Manny Pacquiao Cup: Kadaugan sa Mactan 10-Ball Championship gets underway at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

The open tournament is expected to draw some of the top players from around the world as they gear up for the World Ten-Ball Championship on May 9-15.

Kadaugan sa Mactan is an annual festival commemorating the gallant stand of Lapu-Lapu and his men against the Spanish invaders led by Magellan.

Pacquiao once played the role of Lapu-Lapu in a stage play during the festivity. He agreed to be the title sponsor of the tournament before going to the United States for the final phase of his preparations against Sugar Shane Mosley.

The tournament organized by Cebuano sportsman Paul ?Magi? Magadan and Lapu-Lapu City councilor Rudy Potot will use the double elimination and alternate break format all the way to the final. All matches will be race-to-7.
