ARUM WINS ROUND ONE IN DONAIRE CASE WITH GOLDEN BOY

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has won round in his battle with Golden Boy Promotions to retain Top Rank?s promotional rights to Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire after Donaire signed a four-year promotional agreement with Golden Boy.

Former judge Daniel Weinstein, the respected Los Angeles based arbiter who entered the fray during the testy legal skirmish between Top Rank and Golden Boy over Manny Pacquiao deliberated on the latest conflict and enjoined GBP from promoting Donairer for the duration of Donaire?s exclusive promotional agreement with Top Rank.

What Weinstein said in effect was that Golden Boy wrongfully signed Donaire to a four-year promotional agreement in the face of Top Rank's agreement with the up-and-coming star. The Arbitrator's ruling paves the way for Top Rank to promote Donaire's next bout which is scheduled for May 28, possibly against WBA champion Anselmo Moreno which is a fight Top Rank had started arranging last month before Golden Boy signed Donaire.

Top Rank's attorney Daniel Petrocelli stated, "We are pleased with Judge Weinstein's carefully considered decision. Top Rank hopes it can put the lawyers and legal fight behind it and return to doing what it does best -- promoting the most talented boxers and the most entertaining boxing matches in the world today."

Donaire is currently ranked No. 4 in the pound-for-pound list of the prestigious Ring Magazine behind Pacquiao who is No.1, Floyd Mayweather No.2 and Sergio Martinez who displaced Donaire at No.3e after his recent win.

The lawyers of Golden Boy Promotions have filed suit in a Las Vegas court on behalf of Donaire claiming the contract with Top Rank is invalid, citing alleged breach of contract by Arum in not getting Donaire three fights a year as stated in his contract.

However, Petrocelli had argued that the fights couldn?t take place because of injuries suffered by Donaire.

That issue is up for litigation in a Las Vegas court.
