Filipino World Boxing Council international minimumweight titlist Denver Cuello battles Thai Samat ?3K Battery? Chaiyong this Saturday in the hope of taking one big step towards finally earning a crack at a world crown at the Angono Coliseum in Angono, Rizal.

A victory by the hard-punching native of Cabatuan town in Iloilo in his 12-round confrontation dubbed ?Laban Ng Lahi? with the former muay-thai campaigner can put Cuello back as the no. 1 ranked contender to the 105-pound belt-owner Kazuto Ioka of Japan and lines himself up for a mandatory defense encounter for the latter?s title, a privilege he lost when he bowed to Mexican Juan Hernandez in a controversial disqualification decision.

In that WBC minimumweight eliminator bout, Cuello, one of the country?s promising international campaigner with his impressive 25W-4L-6D with 15 knockouts, was leading on points in the middle round when he throw a punch with Hernandez was about to kiss the canvass prompting the judges to disqualified him, giving the victory to the Mexican and, in the process, ousting the Filipino from seeking the title.

The disqualification was blamed by Jaro to hometown decision because the fight was held at the Auditorio Plaze Condesa in Mexico.

This time against Chaiyong, however, Cuello, who fights under the stable of Aljoe Jaro, vowed to do everything to emerge victor and end his long-time dream of fighting and winning a world championship for the country.

?Gusto ko makabawi at maka-recover agad para makalaban ako na nakataya ang korona. Sayang ang pagkakataon ko sa laban ko kay Hernandez, dapat sana noon pa laban na ako sa championship,? Cuello said during a press conference held yesterday at the GMA Network Center.

Cuello, a look-alike of Barcelona Olympic Games bronze medalist Roel Velasco, pronounced himself ready for Chaiyong, a young fighter who owns a 200-fight as an amateur and many member of the Thai national team who owns a 4-1-1 with two KOs record.

?Limang beses na akong lumaban mula noong matalo ako ni Hernandez at pakiramdam ko ay kaya kong talunin si Chaiyong at makaharap ang sinumang naghahawak ng world title,? Cuello, whose last fight was a TKO victory over another Thai, Kongkrai Kiatpracha November last year, told his audience that included GMA vice president Regional TV and head of the network?s expansion services Rikki Escudero.

Jaro, for his part, said he sees the fight to end in earlier rounds should the Thai decide to mix it up.

?Kapag sumabay, malamang na matapos agad,? Jaro said.
