Filipino super flyweight Louie Bantigue has scored a stunning 2nd round TKO over Japanese prospect Ippei Aoki at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center in Osaka, Japan on Monday.
It was Bantigue?s third win in his last three fights in Japan and belied his comparatively poor fight record which now stands at 19-14-7 with 10 knockouts.
Hall of Fame media man, boxing manager and matchmaker Joe Koizumi reported that Bantigue who is ranked No. 7 by the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation swarmed all over Aoki from the beginning and caught the Japanese with solid overhand rights, dropping Aoki twice before the referee called a halt at 2:27 of the second round.
Koizumi said Bantigue who stands 5?4? looked better than his mediocre credentials and connected repeatedly with right crosses against the taller Aoki who had a two inch height advantage at 5?6?.
Bantigue nailed Aoki with a devastating right sending the Japanese sprawling to the canvas early in the second round.
Aoki managed to beat the count but was groggy and Bantigue went after him and dropped him for a second time.
Aoki gamely tried to continue but the referee realized he was in no position to continue and called a halt giving the Filipino another big win in Japan.
Bantigue was coming off a 5th round TKO over highly regarded Ryuji Ikehara (8-1-1, 3 KO?s) last December 19.
