Pacquiao training going smoothly

BAGUIO CITY ? World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao completed what he and his handlers described as the ?best first week? of preparations he ever had in his career.
?Yes, the past seven days of my preparation was definitely, the best first week of preparations I had in my career,? Pacquiao declared Saturday ending his initial seven-day training at the Shape Up Boxing Gym inside Cooyeesan Hotel headquarters.

?Maayos, walang hitches, walang abala at smooth ang takbo mula sa roadwork sa umaga hanggang sa gym work sa hapon,? the eight-division world belt-owner and the still the world?s pound-for-pound finest told this writer.

?Para ngang isang buwan na akong nag-e-ensayo pagkatapos naming kanina,? he said.

Pacquiao will be staking his WBO welterweight belt against Shane Mosley on May 7 in Las Vegas.
?I think we?ve attained we wanted out of training in high altitude here. Unti-unti ay nare-recover ko ang stamina, ang lakas ng suntok at bilis ng paa,? he attested. ?Even Freddie impress was impressed with the way his prepared regimen has been going so far.?

The Pacman was referring to chief trainer Freddie Roach, who, in a separate interview, agreed with his ward?s observations.
?I myself told that to him the other day. It was the best first week since we worked together 10 years ago", he revealed. ? He?s been following to the letter what we?ve been telling him to do,? Roach said. He?s shadow boxing better, punching the bags at his best and doing the mitts with me with gusto,? Roach noted.?He?s been in a good mood since we started Monday. He?s happy as usual, but he looks happier now,?

Strength and conditioning Coach Alex Ariza, likewise, had good words in the manner preparations are going.

?Manny looks to be enjoying everything he?s been doing. I never saw him so enjoyed like what he is showing this week,? Ariza, for his part, said. ?And you know Manny. When he?s enjoying, he?s serious in what he does.?
?It?s been a solid week, I ell you. Freddie is right, he seems very hungry to fight. Maybe the long layoff made him such, and we all expect a good camp from here up to L.A and to Las Vegas,? Ariza said.

?We?ll be doing the same thing during the next week starting Monday with the same motive improve his resistance, timing, speed and punching power before we go into the next stage of preparations which is sparing,? Roach, the four-time ?Trainer of the Year? said.

Reason why from nine rounds with the mitts Thursday and Friday, Roach reduced the distance to only six although he obliged for two more after Manny himself requested to sweat more.
The boxer and the trainer did the extra two rounds with Roach not wearing his usual body protector to the delight of the lean crowd admitted in the closed door session.
