If Filipino-American world lady super-bantamweight champion Ana Julaton will have her way, the next defense of her title should be in the country of her roots?the Philippines.
And she wants her next fight to be held either in Pangasinan, her father, Cesario II?s, home province, Cebu or Manila.
?Yes, if my wish will be followed, I want to stage my next fight here before my countrymen,? Julaton declared in Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.?I am a Filipino by blood and I want to show that to everybody, especially my fellow-Filipinos.?
Her manager-trainer, Angelo Reyes, said though that there is nothing definite about where the fight will be, when and even against whom as everything is still being threshed out by Julaton?s promoter Allen Tremblay of the Toronto-based Orion Sports
?What is definite is Ana will be defending one of her titles soon. What we cannot reveal yet is where it will be held and when,? Reyes told his audience during the forum, sponsored by Coca Cola Bottler-Philippines, TV-5, Mang Inasal and FILA.
Though he would not divulge against whom his ward will be facing, Reyes hinted it should be whoever among the top three contenders.
?It will be a mandatory defense, so she should be fighting the one of those occupying the top three fighters in her division,? Reyes said.
Julaton, and Reyes came to the SCOOP session with the Filipina fighter?s lead adviser Gary Cagaanan.
Cagaanan assured that Team Julaton is doing everything that the fight will be held here. ?It?s her long-time dream to show her wares right in this country and with her countrymen as audience, so we?re doing everything to make that possible.?
Julaton, 30, who owns both the 122-pound World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Association belts, for her part, said it will be the former crown she will be staking, adding the fight might not be later than May 25.
She said she will start preparation as soon as details of the fight ? venue, date and her opponent ? shall have been finalized.
?Since I will be fighting in the month of May, I supposed part of my training can be held here because, as you know, I am also being handled by Freddie Roach. And since Freddie will be here most of the time during Manny Pacquiao?s preparations, I could join them even in Baguio,? she said.
Julaton was referring to eight-division world champion Pacquiao?s training for his coming fight with Sugar Shane Mosley May 7 in Las Vegas. Also here training under Roach is light-welterweight titleholder Amir Khan.
Julaton said she and her party which arrived here Tuesday to attend the celebration of her latest victory over Franchesca Alcanter hosted by TV-5 ,will be returning to her home-base San Francisco Sunday.
?I might proceed to Wild Card Gym (owned by Roach) in Los Angeles, but will come back here when asked to join Manny?s training here,? she said.
