The celebration of the 100th Year Anniversary of Organized sports in the country shifts to high gear middle of this year with the revival of the once world famous Manila International Marathon.

The Roadracing events, llc., following the lead set by the Palarong Pambansa, is reviving the once prestigious foot race on June 26 as its share in commemoration of the establishment of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation, the entity that brought to life the now Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission.

?Yes, Philippine running will celebrate the centenary of organized sports in the country by reviving the MIM,? Dino Jose, erstwhile long distance ace-turned race organizer said during Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

?Our reviving the MIM, which had been dormant for some decade and-a-half, is our way of paying back the many good things running has given us,? Jose said during the forum, sponsored by Coca Cola Bottler Philippines, TV-5, Mang Inasal and FILA, recalling how sports had widened his horizon and opened a lot of doors to his success in his present undertaking.
Also in the same forum, former Congressman Romy Jalosjos, chairman of the 2011 Palarong Pambansa, likewise, announced that the 64th edition of the National Games for student athletes is also dedicated to the Philippine sports centennial celebration. ?????
MIM ?11, Jose assured, will offer a fast and spectator-friendly course? as the race will be confined to Roxas Boulevard and its periphery for the purpose of posting personal best among the participants.

?I was a part of the running boom in the 80s and I want to be part anew of the current running boom, albeit in another manner. From runner to race organizer, that?s a great circle,? Jose, a balikbayan, exclaimed.

The two-loop race will be one of the highlights, too, of the celebration of the City of Manila?s 440th anniversary.
Red Dumuk, general secretary of the original MIM race Committee, is the race director. Dumuk, likewise, is an erstwhile assistant director of the now-defunct Pilipinas International Marathon and the Magnolia International 20-kilometer race, both former members of the Association of International Marathons.
The MIM was inaugurated in 1982 with two-time German Olympic marathon champion Waldemar Cierpinski ruling the event with a fast 2 hours, 14:27 clocking, still an all-comers record for the 42.195-full marathon race.

The then Filipina 11-year-old girl Joan Laput won the distaff side in 3:28:22.
The MIM revival, Dumuk said, seeks to improve the quality of running in the country as he observed that in recent race results held locally, only 10 runners had submitted sub-three hours norms.
