The Philippines Joel De La Cruz has lost by a 3rd round knockout to young Thai Pan Asian Boxing Association welterweight interim champion Teerachai Or Ekarin in Chiang Mai over the weekend.
With the rousing victory the undefeated 18 year old Ekarin improved his record to 9-0 with 6 knockouts while the 25 year old De La Cruz dropped to 12-10-1 with 6 knockouts.
The referee was Prammase Chakshurakash and the fight was staged by Galaxy Promotions. It was Ekarin?s third interim title defense.
Ekarin won the interim title with a 2nd round TKO over Indonesia?s Moses Seran on August 17 last year and successfully defended it twice winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Vladislav Savchenko on October 13, 2010 and forcing another Filipino Amor Tino to retire at the end of the 5th round last December 28.
De La Cruz who is ranked No. 13 by PABA lost twice by a second round knockout last year to Thai Tor Silachai in a WBO Oriental lightweight title bout on April 26 and was then knocked out by hard-hitting Dan Nazareno Jr on August 28.
However, De La Cruz also won two bouts by stoppage against perennial whipping boy Jury Noda who had a record of 8-16-2 with 6 knockouts and to date has lost 14 fights in a row most of them by knockout or TKO and a fighter identified as Muhamude who was making his professional debut in China.
