Undefeated 27 year old Saddam Kietyongyuth showed his vaunted punching power to keep his WBC Asian Boxing Council lightweight title with a smashing 2nd round knockout of Indonesian challenger Eddy Comaro in Ampawa District, Samutsongram province, Thailand, Wednesday
Trained by veteran Filipino Jun Agrabio who helped ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona win the WBO super flyweight title Saddam lived up to his fans expectations by overpowering Comaro with his devastating punching power.
With the win Saddam improved to 21-0 with 17 knockouts while Comaro who was not ranked in the ABC top 15 as of December, fell to 23-10-4 with 8 knockouts.
In a supporting bout on the card presented by Top Rated International Promotions Ltd in partnership with Yongyut Promotions, Filipino Joan De Guia dropped a six round decision to undefeated Thai Padjai Yiongyuth.
Boxing manager Dr. Rajan Yraola told the Inquirer that De Guia, a last minute substitute for Reynaldo Belandres (13-2-2, 8 KO?s) ? had his moments in the fight but came out short at the end due probably to the late notice to take the fight? after the original opponent of Padjai, Reynaldo Belandres (13-2-2, 8 KO?s) had to be replaced at the last minute for unspecified ?medical reasons.?
With the win Padjai improved to 9-0-1 with 7 knockouts while De Guia dropped to 11-13-4 with 3 knockouts.
The solidly built Saddam had previously battered another Indonesian, Simson Butar Butar into submission in two rounds last April 16, 2010 after disposing of several worthy Filipino opponents including southpaw Jimrex Jaca over whom Saddam scored a 2nd round TKO on October 22, 2008 after disposing of JR Sollano in one round on June 27, 2008. The only Filipino fighter who gave Saddam a good fight was Arnel Tinampay who went twelve rounds before losing a unanimous decision to the Thai champion on September 25, 2006.
Saddam won the WBC Asian Boxing Council title with a spectacular 1st round knockout of Richard Sandikal on April 13, 2006.
One of his most noteworthy performances was against Kazakhstan?s rugged Serikzhan Teshmagambetov over whom Saddam won by a 5th round TKO on December 19, 2008. Serikzhan was the same fighter who dropped reigning pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in the first round of a ten round bout at the Luneta Grandstand on March 15, 2003.
Pacquiao who had earlier dropped the Kazakh fighter in the first round dropped him again in the fifth to win by a TKO.
The 24 year old Comaro was coming off a loss in a IBF Pan Pacific super featherweight title fight when he retired in the eighth round in a bout against Fahsai Sakkreerin last October 15.
