Although Don King failed in his efforts to woo Floyd Mayweather Jr in the hope that he and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum could get together and do a deal for a blockbuster fight with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, the two promotional legends have got together for their first promotion in five years.

The Hall of Fame promoter Arum and the effervescent King appeared side-by-side at a promotional interview in New York City, Wednesday, Manila Time to announce a Showtime pay-per-view extravaganza.

The explosive fight card will be headlined by a battle between WBA super welterweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico and two division world champion Ricardo ?El Matador? Mayorga of Nicaragua.

The fight card will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 12.

Cotto who lost by a 12th round TKO in a WBO welterweight title defense against Pacquiao is one of those being considered for a possible rematch with the ?Fighter of the Decade? should he overcome Shane Mosley as expected on May 7 also at the MGM and Cotto retain his crown against Mayorga.

Cotto has a record of 35-2 with 28 knockouts while Mayorga has a record of 29-7-1 with 23 knockouts.

Arum had earlier said that should King be able to acquire the rights to Mayweather then he and King would be able to sit down and work out a fight deal in 30 minutes.

Among the biggest promotions the two promotional legends put together was the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier ?Thrilla in Manila? on October 1, 1975. It?s a fight that has long been considered the greatest heavyweight championship of all time.

Should King be able to get Mayweather to get out of his current legal bind and agree to a fight against Pacquiao both fighters are expected to earn at least $50 million each which some boxing people believe would be a fitting finale for the two colossus of the boxing business.
