Hard-hitting, undefeated 27 year old Saddam Kietyongyuth (20-0, 17 KO?s) who is regarded as one of the toughest and most promising fighters in Thailand will defend his WBC Asian Boxing Council lightweight title in Ampawa District, Samutsongram province, Thailand today.
Trained by veteran Filipino Jun Agrabio who helped ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona to win the WBO super flyweight title Saddam faces Indonesia?s Eddy Comaro (23-9-4, 8 KO?s) in a bout that is not expected to go the distance because of the devastating punching power of Saddam.
On the card staged by Top Rated International Promotions Ltd in partnership with Yongyut Promotions will also feature Filipino super featherweight Joan De Guia (11-12-4m 3 KO?s against Thailand?s undefeated Padjai Yiongyuth Gym, nicknamed ?The Sniper? who has a record of 8-0-1 with 7 knockouts.
Boxing manager Dr. Rajan Yraola informed us that the original opponent of Padjai, Reynaldo Belandres (13-2-2, 8 KO?s) had to be replaced at the last minute by De Guia for ?medical reasons.?
However, both Dr. Yraola and the Games and Amusements Board in Manila were unable to tell us what the ?medical reasons? were, as yet.
The 5? 7 ?? Saddam last fought on April 16, 2010 when he hammered tough Indonesian Simson Butar Butar into submission in two rounds. He has also beaten a string of worthy Filipino opponents including southpaw Jimrex Jaca over whom Saddam scored a 2nd round TKO on October 22, 2008 after disposing of JR Sollano in one round on June 27, 2008.
The only Filipino fighter who gave Saddam a good fight was Arnel Tinampay who went twelve rounds before losing a unanimous decision to the Thai champion on September 25, 2006.
Saddam won the WBC Asian Boxing Council title with a spectacular 1st round knockout of Richard Sandikal on April 13, 2006.
One of his most noteworthy performances was against Kazakhstan?s rugged Serikzhan Teshmagambetov over whom Saddam won by a 5th round TKO on December 19, 2008. Serikzhan was the same fighter who dropped reigning pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in the first round of a ten round bout at the Luneta Grandstand on March 15, 2003.
Pacquiao who had earlier dropped the Kazakh fighter in the first round dropped him again in the fifth to win by a TKO.
The 24 year old Comaro is coming off a loss in a IBF Pan Pacific super featherweight title fight when he retired in the eighth round in a bout against fellow Thai Fahsai Sakkreerin last Octobver 15.
