Melligen (R) is looking for a rematch with Michel Rosales (L).

Welterweight Mark Jason Melligen is deep into his conditioning training at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu for his fight on the undercard of the WBC/WBO bantamweight battle between Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire and WBO/WBC champion Fernando ?KO-Chulito? Montiel.

The top Rank promotion will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on February 19 and will be telecast over ABS-CBN.

Melligen?s trainer in Las Vegas, former longtime Cebu resident Tony Martin informed the Inquirer that Melligen has been working with strength and conditioning coach Pio Solon for the past two months ?even forsaking his X?Mas and New Year by not going home but concentrating on getting into the best shape of his life ? in preparation for his Las Vegas bout.

Martin said they were hoping to get a rematch with Michel Rosales, the 5?11? Mexican who beat Melligen by a split decision over ten rounds on November 13, 2009 but at the present time nothing has been confirmed.

He said Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman has been working hard to get the Rosales rematch and that ?should Rosales fail to fight, we have complete faith in Goodman and trust him to find a worthy opponent for Melligen.?

Martin indicated that Melligen will leave for Las Vegas on January 15 or 16 to resume training with him in Las Vegas. Martin said he had lined up some great sparring for the hard-hitting southpaw and stressed he would ?push him to the limit.?

The trainer said ?It is now the time to step up to the next level.?

The 24 year old Melligen has won eight of his last nine fights campaigning in the US and has a record of 20-2 with 14 knockouts. He has won four fights since his loss to Rosales scoring a 6th round TKO over undefeated Raymond Gatica on February 13, 2010, a unanimous ten round decision over Norberto Gonzalez on April 10, 2010, another ten round decision over tough Anges Adajo on July 3 and a 3rd round TKO over Bladimir Hernandez on October 30, 2010.
