ELORDE WANTS TRAINER SUSPENDED FOR ILLEGAL HANDWRAPS

Promoter Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr has asked the Games and Amusements Board to suspend trainer Nelson Arina for ?placing the plaster of his fighter Saddam Eyo (3-4, 3 KO?s) on his knuckles which is illegal? prior to a super flyweight bout against BJ Dolorosa (9-5, 1 KO) who is handled by Elorde last December 11 in Paranaque.

Elorde wrote to Dr. Nasser Cruz, head of the Games and Amusements Board boxing division citing the rule which states that ?the plaster on the boxer?s hands should be at least one inch above the boxer?s knuckles.?

He said that the illegal hand-wraps could result in a knockout or bloody the face of an opponent and feared that a punch to the head could result in serious injury.

While Elorde told the Inquirer that the GAB supervisor had the hand-wraps removed and re-done following his complaint, he still wants the GAB ?to suspend trainer Arina?s license for at least two years or revocation of his license.?

Elorde said that fighters should train hard so they would win and not have trainers think of ways of cheating.

As a result of the GAB?s immediate action prior to the fight Elorde?s boxer BJ Dolorosa won a unanimous eight round decision over Eyo.

The California State Athletic Commission canceled Antonio Margaito's trainer for life while Margarito himself was suspended for one year for reportedly using an illegal substance identifief as plaster of Paris which was discovered prior to his fight with Shane Mosley.

When Margarito sought a reinstatement and a license to fight Manny Pacquio in Las Vegas, it was turned down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission although Margarito was able to get a license for the Pacquiao fight in Texas.
