Ring Magazine number five pound-for-pound fighter in the world Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire sent former world bantanweight champion Volodymyr Sydorenko of Ukraine to the canvas three times and disfigured Sydorenko's face before the referee stopped the contest 1:48 in the 4th round at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).

From the outset, Donaire had Sydorenko's number as the Ukrainian was the constant recipient of Donaire's snipings that reddened Sydorenko's face. Towards the end of the first round, Donaire caught Sydorenko with a left cross-right straight combo for the bout's first knockdown. In the second round, Sydorenko's face was all red as Donaire connected to Sydorenko's face at will. Donaire again sent Sydorenko to the canvas in the third round as the overmatched Ukrainian sustained a cut in his left cheek that highlighted his already crimsoned face. In the 4th round Sydorenko again dropped to the canvas from a Donaire combination as the referee stepped in to stop the one-sided contest while blood was dripping from the nose of the Ukrainian.

"I wanted to make a statement tonight and I did," Donaire told interviewer Rich Marotta after the fight. Donaire is set to challenge WBC/WBO titleholder Fernando Montiel on Feb. 19 next year. "I'm excited and I'm looking forward to that fight," Donaire said who had registered the 25th win of his career against a single loss. He won eight of his last nine bouts inside the distance.
