Mark Gil Melligen has suffered a 2nd round TKO in a battle for the vacant Pan Asian Boxing Association super bantamweight title at the Thranakhon Rajabhat University in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.
22 year old Thai newcomer Sukkasem Kietyongyuth who had only three fights prior to the title bout with 2 knockouts proved far too strong for Melligen who was ranked No. 7 by PABA and entered the ring with a record of 12-3-1 with 4 knockouts.
Australian referee Brad Vocale called a halt at 2:31 of the second round.
Sukkasem earned the shot at the vacant title after scoring an impressive 2nd roundTKO over veteran Indonesian southpaw Vicky Tahumil (33-3-2, 12 KO?s) last July 16.
Melligen was coming off an eighth round majority decision over Japan?s Tohooyo Matsuda last May 2.
The 23 year old Melligen is regarded as an extremely talented fighter who is a champion in the gym but leaves much to be desired in terms of his mental strength when in the ring in an actual bout.
