SULAIMAN SAYS PACQUIAO IS MODERN DAY HENRY ARMSTRONG

World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has referred to pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao as ?the modern Henry Armstrong of the 21st century.?
Armstrong held titles in three weight divisions when there were fewer weight divisions and had the distinction of holding three world titles at the same time.
In an email to the Inquirer, Sulaiman asked ?from what planet did this boxer named Manny Pacquiao come from?? extolling his out-of-this world skills as a champion in eight separate weight divisions.
Sulaiman said he ?sincerely thought that Margarito would give him a tougher fight, but my God what a beating.?
But what impressed Sulaiman the most and earned his respect was when Pacquiao ?came out for the last round and after having demolished him during the whole fight, he just boxed not to hurt Margarito any more and left him to survive the whole fight.?
The WBC president who presented the championship belt to Pacquiao which also included the Dallas Cowboys star and the Top Rank logo said ?Manny was so superior that he made Margarito look at his worst ever.?
As a result of the terrible beating he suffered and referee Laurence Cole?s refusal to heed Pacquiao?s pleas to stop the fight Margarito will pay a heavy price.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who also promotes Margarito said the Mexican will undergo surgery to repair a fractured right eye socket on Wednesday after the swelling on his eye has been reduced.
Margarito is confined at the Dallas Methodist Hospital where he was taken after the severe beating from Pacquiao that didn?t even allow him or members of his team including trainer Robert Gracia to attend the post-fight press conference.
Well known boxing writer Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports said ringside physician Dr. Manuel Gonzalez who began to check Margarito in the fourth round and then again after the eleventh indicated that he didn?t recommend that referee Cole stop the fight because he felt Margarito could see.
Trainer Garcia claimed Margarito would not allow him to stop the fight even after Pacquiao started pointing out the damage to referee Cole during the ninth round.
Iole quoted Arum who said Margarito ?is in very good spirits and he?s not in pain. They just have to wait till the swelling reduces, then they can do the surgery and he?ll be released to fly home.? At the same time Arum said that as far as he knows, the injury is not career-threatening.
