DALLAS, Texas (via Pera Padala)? The animosity between the camps of Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito persists.
?
Barely days before their fight for the World Boxing Council junior-middleweight , Margarito had already been found guilty of a ?low blow.?
?
Margarito and stablemate Brandon Rios was caught by video making fun of Pacquiao?s trainer Freddie Roach?s Parkinson disease in what justified why many didn?t want Saturday?s fight for the vacant junior-middleweight fight to happen.
?
It was reminiscent of the hand-wrap incident that caused people to brand the three-time world champion as cheater and forced boxing commissions of several states, including those of Las Vegas and California to cancel his license.
?
The incident on video left a bad taste in the mouth and was condemned by many sectors that even Margarito?s chief trainer Robert Garcia had to apologize during Wednesday?s final press conference.
?
Garcia, in an obvious effort to lay the issue to rest, said Margarito and Rios did not know of Roach disease.
?
No one from Pacquiao?s camp accepted Garcia?s apology. Not Pacquiao. Not Roach.
?
Probably because, as far as the sevens-division champion is concerned, he will just let his fists do the talking. In defense of his trainer, without whose guidance he might not have reached the position he is now.
?
Pacquiao, in his turn to speak at the presscon, instead talked about the coming fight, saying it is one ?many have been waiting for.?
?It?ll be a good,? he promised. ?Margarito and I had the best training camps. There will be a lot of action.?
Pacquiao took the occasion to explain why his training sort of started on the wrong foot because he and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza tried to compensate for his size disadvantage by increasing his weight.
?As a result, I got sluggish. I can?t move as fast as I did before. So I decided to just maintain my 147, 148 weight and I believe it can bear fruits as I feel great from the time I started my training in Los Angeles,? he told his audience.
?Margarito is a good fighter, he likes to throw a lot of punches. I love it. Don?t miss it. My only problem is how to give the fans a good fight,? he said.
Roach agreed, saying in the first three weeks of their camp, his pupil was not physically and mentally focused due to his duties as congressman.
?But when we get to LA, things abruptly changed training attitude. Manny?s now in great shape. It will be as good fight.?
?The time is now. There will be no excuses,? Margarito, for his part, said. Then turning to World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman, he added. ?There will be a new Mexican champ on November 13.?
Earlier in the press conference, Sulaiman recalled that in his watch as WBC top honcho, there had been 61 title fights between Filipinos and Mexicans.
?Of this total, 24 were won by the Filipinos. Twelve of this were won by Pacquiao. Fifty percent, in other words, was won by Pacquiao.
Highlight of the meet the press ceremony was the awarding of a special a special trophy by Sulaiman to the fight promoter,Top Rank?s Bob Arum.
