NIETES LEAVES FOR MEXICO

LOS ANGELES -- WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes together with trainers Edmund and Edito Villamor and ALA Promotions Vice-President Dennis Canete left Los Angeles at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) Pacific Time aboard Aeromexico to Los Mochis via Mexico City. The team will then motor to Guasave, about an hour drive just south of Los Mochis, the site where Nietes will defend his title against local boy Mario Rodriguez. The team is expected to be in Guasave by 9pm local time.
Cutman Dr Ed de la Vega and this writer will leave Los Angeles later in the early evening Wednesday and are expected to be in Guasave Thursday morning in time for the press conference.
Weigh-in will be on Friday and fight night is on Saturday (Sunday morning Manila time).
