Former three-time world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales (49-6, 34 KO?s) is taking no chances as he prepares to face Scotland?s durable Willie Limond (33-2, 8 KO?s) on September 11 at Plaza Mexico.
The 33 year old Morales is training in the refreshing mountain air of The Otomi Ceremonial Center where he trained for his fights against current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in which Morales lost two fights in their classic trilogy.
Morales won the first by a unanimous twelve round decision but lost the second in a 10th round TKO and the third by a 3rd round knockout.
Morales? father, Joe Morales, is once again training his son has told Latino Box that Erik will be in perfect condition on the day of the fight against Limond.
Morales was quoted as saying ?Today we started sparring five rounds with two guys that are helping us, here at the Otomi Ceremonial Center. As the days go past, we will increase the rounds."
Trainer Morales indicated that ?The training carried out in the gym has been very strong. We place great emphasis on each hit he makes, either, with the bag, open mitts, etc."
The former WBC world bantamweight, junior featherweight and super featherweight champion has been studying tapes of Limond in preparation for his second comeback fight.
Morales lost a twelve round unanimous decision in a WBC lightweight title fight against David Diaz on August 4, 2007 but returned to the ring on March 27, 2010 and scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Jose Alfaro to win the vacant WBC International welterweight title.
Joe Morales revealed that his son watched a tape of Limond?s fight against Amir Khan (WBA world lightweight champion) where he lost. Morales described Limond as ?a young fighter with a good record. Erik has been saying it all along, he wants to face the best."
The trainer added "He's an opponent who has a history in the Olympics. He has a name in Europe and only lost twice. Therefore, it will be a very good fight between my son Erik and the Scott. We will see real boxing. We have the exact time to make weight. We're right on target, training hard and quiet in that regard."
The 31 year old Limond won the vacant World Boxing Union lightweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Ryan Brrett on May 29, 2009.
Morales is ranked No 2 junior welterweight by the World Boxing Council and No. 6 by the World Boxing Association.
