After more in-depth medical analysis, doctors have decided not to push through with the scheduled operation on Abet Guidaben?s thymus glands which was set for Wednesday at the New Jersey hospital where the former Crispa Redmanizer, two-time MVP is confined.

PBA Legends USA Foundation secretary general Ruffy Ignacio informed us that doctors had ?prescribed some leading-edge drugs to take. The medics will monitor his condition regularly.?

Ignacio said they did not know whether Guidaben will be allowed to return home following reports that the attacks which make it hard to breathe or eat come and go.

Former PBA superstar Abe King who is head of the PBA Legends USA Foundation is deep into preparations for basketball games at the Veterans Gym in Carson, California on September 11 to raise funds for Guidaben?s treatment.

The PBA board headed by chairman Rene Pardo, in response to a request we made, will meet on August 10 to take up the question of financial assistance.

San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang responded immediately after we coursed the Manila Standard Story to him through Robert Non who handles basketball operations of SMC besides his other duties. Non informed us last Friday that Mr. Ang had donated $5,000 to Guidaben and the money was coursed through the PBA to the Legends Foundation in the US.

?The Living Legend? of Philipine basketball, former Sen. Robert Jaworski has suggested that the basketball games also include an entertainment show featuring Filipino artists in the US.

Ignacio said a theater-entertainment firm, called Fame headed by Roland Abilo has volunteered to handle the show component.

Ignacio reported that Guidaben was ?very, very grateful for the help and concern? of colleagues and friends who read the news of his bizarre ailment and have come to his aid. In the meantime Guidaben?s wife Maridol is doing well following a hip operation.
