Fernando ?Cochulito? Montiel, the reigning WBC/WBO bantamweight champion has, as expected, smashed an overmatched Rafael ?El Torito? Concepcion in a title defense at the Palenque de la Feria in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.

Montiel ripped the former WBA super flyweight interim champion sending him to the canvas twice in the second round with vicious left hooks and then took him out for good at 1:07 of the third round with a deadly right..

With the win Montiel improved to 43-2-2 with 33 knockouts and may be enticed by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to defend his title against WBA super flyweight interim champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire who has been chasing Montiel to give him a title shot.

Donaire who scored an impressive 8th round TKO over Mexican KO specialist Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in Puerto Rico two weekends ago was promised a shot at Montiel by Arum some time ago.

Donaire made it clear that he was struggling to make the 115 pound limit and wanted to fight as a bantamweight or even a super bantamweight and with Montiel?s impressive win he may well consider giving Donaire who is rated No. 4 in Ring Magazine?s pound-for-pound roster a crack at his title.

The managing editor of boxingscene.com, Jake Donovan reported that American cable giant Showtime is rumored to be very interested in purchasing the fight for its fall schedule. A few venues have been suggested, though nothing yet solidified for a matchup would serve as the type of super fight so sorely lacking below 122 lb. these days.
