The talks between a representative of the Royal Family of the United Arab Emirates and their lawyer ?went very well? according to both Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and pound-for-pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz.
They met over dinner in Las Vegas last Monday. Koncz said the Abu Dhabi representatives were returning to the U.A.E to report to the Royal Family on their discussions and had promised to get back to Arum and Koncz over the weekend.
Koncz who was originally scheduled to leave for Manila on Thursday along with boxers Bernabe Concepcion, Eden Sonsona and Sonsona?s manager Rommel Nazario said he was attending to some things that Pacquiao had instructed him to handle and may have to delay his return.
Koncz disclosed that there are two offers on the table for Pacquiao to fight either WBO light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in a rematch on November 13 or Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC 154 pound title.
The entire package and the available options would be relayed to Pacquiao who would then make the final decision.
The first decision Pacquiao will have to make is whether to face off with Cotto in a rematch after scoring a 12th round TKO to win the WBO welterweight title last November or to go up against Margarito who still hasn?t obtained a license to fight in the United States following his one year suspension by the California State Athletic Commission for using a foreign substance, believed to be plaster of Paris, on his hand-wraps which was discovered before Margarito?s fight with Sugar Shane Mosley which the Mexican lost.
Insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports learned that there was huge offer for Pacquiao to take on Margarito in Monterrey, Mexico for the vacant WBC 154 pound title since Margarito is ranked No.1.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman who is a great fan of Pacquiao and hasn?t written off Margarito despite the suspension slapped on him and the failure of the Nevada State Athletic Commission to take up his request for a license despite a personal appearance by Margarito.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer informed us that the ?Commission voted 4-1 to postpone ruling on his application for a Nevada license to box until he appeals for a California license and the California State Athletic Commission has considered that application.?
