Former two-time world light flyweight champion Brian Viloria says he won?t allow a repeat of what happened when he faded in the last two rounds and lost his IBF title to Carlos Tamara of Colombia in a fight he was winning on the scorecards of all three judges until the 12th round TKO with just 1:15 remaining in the fight.
Viloria told us ?I am in tremendous condition. I have been training already for 13 weeks and I don?t want what happened in the last fight to happen again that?s why I prepared myself mentally and physically better than I did for the last fight. Hopefully everything goes right, I win this fight and another world title fight is going to materialize for me."
Stressing that he is far more comfortable as a flyweight Viloria said he ?feels better? even as he pointed out that ?the last pound was really hard to lose? in struggling to make the light flyweight limit.
He said ?it takes a lot out of you physically and mentally but staying at 112, letting my body fill in was the better choice for me. It makes me feel better and makes me a lot more confident and I can use a lot of my power and hope I can keep my power at this weight division and show it.?
Viloria said his opponent, Omar Sotto is ?a very durable fighter, comes at you, throws a lot of combinations and just makes you work. So I conditioned myself to go all the way? in the ten round bout.?
The former US Sydney Olympian said he hopes he would be ?too quick for him and too strong for him.?
While conceding that Filipino boxing fans may have been disappointed with him after he lost to Tamara Viloria emphasized ?I love doing what I?m doing and the fans help motivate me a lot of times and sometimes they just want to see the best and if you come short of that they are all hard on you but at the same time I use that to help motivate me to come out and perform a lot better. For me the fans is what its all about. I fight for them, I put everything into the ring because of wanting entertainers and wanting to show that I do what I do is because they help support me.?
The fight is a promotion of Solar Sports and will be telecast by the sports channel as well as on RPN Channel 9 and Viloria predicted a ?great fight and I want to show that I still have what it takes to go in there and become a world champion. I will put my heart 110 percent into this fight come what may. When the lights go on I am going to show that I am still one of the best and a world champion.?
Told that fight fans would expect him to perform like he did in that sensational 11th round KO of Ulises Solis last April 19, 2009, Viloria told us ?that?s the type of fights I like to bring to the stage. Such exciting fights are why a lot of fans come out because I try not to make it dull. I like to entertain, like to show a performance because that?s what its about. Its why people come out and spend their hard earned money to come and watch. I don?t like being mediocre or lackluster. I want to go in there and give the fans what they came to see.?
Trainer Ruben Salazar said ?training c amp has gone very well and he couldn?t ask for anything more than what he?s been doing. Brian is in very good spirits. He wants to show that he is back and he is going to be a world champion again. I am very, very confident because we have a tremendous guy here with us, Frankie Liles who has been a world champion and pretty much had the same amateur background as Brian so there was an immediate connection there.?
Frankie ?Fabulous? Liles was a former world super middleweight champion who won the WBA title in 1994 beating Steve Little and successfully defended the title seven times over a five year reign which included wins over Michael Nunn, Segundo Mercado and a rematch with Tim Littles. Liles lost his title to Byron Mitchell in 1999 and hung up his gloves in 2002.
Liles was a southpaw and he was at one time trained by Freddie Roach.
Liles stepped in some three weeks ago after Robert Garcia and Viloria?s manager Gary Gittelsohn had a major difference and Garcia and Viloria parted ways.
Liles said he was looking to Brian ?to go out and perform really, really well. He has everything that it takes to be on top and it?s just a matter of time now.?
During a training stint at the Wild Card Gym Viloria sparred with WBA champion Giovanni Segura who is a tremendous puncher and former bantamweight challenger Nesto Rocha and did well.
In a final sparring session on Monday, Viloria sparred with the younger brother of Eden Sonsona.
